Learners place a fairy in the correct position according to each preposition word label at the top (above) each toadstool scene sheet.


Who’s it for?

This resource has been designed for children in the early years (depending on understanding/ability), years 1 and 2 as well as older learners needing to revisit/explore these prepositions further.


Preparation

Print out the toadstool preposition 'scene sheets' (pages 2 to 21) you wish to focus on, as well as page 1 and the last two (Answer) pages (22 and 23). Laminate the scene sheets and the 'Answers' sheets. Cut up the fairies on page 1 and laminate these. Separate laminated fairies, ensuring edges are rounded and smooth. Add a small dot of blue tac to the back of each fairy.


How to use this resource

Place laminated sheets (pages 2-21) with cut out and laminated fairies and place together on a table top/carpet for learners to access. Learners take a fairy and position as the preposition word label above each toadstool indicates.

Answers (pages 22/23)

Answers are provided as a 'guide', however these may vary for some prepositions, e.g. 'beside' can be 'either' side. Your learner/s should be encouraged to explain their thinking.

These Answer sheets can made available to learners to check their own learning once the activity is complete, encouraging autonomy.


Suggestion

A tiny ball of blue tac could be secured to the back of each fairy image to keep learners placement in position once they have completed this activity.
