Description

What’s included?

x6 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format.

Who’s it for?

This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support.

What’s it for?

This resource is a set of 29 double-sided alphabet cards featuring Christmas-themed images. This is a fun opportunity for learners to practise identifying the initial sound of a word in the run up to Christmas.

How to use it?
  • Double-Sided: Each card features a Christmas image on one side and the corresponding grapheme (letter) on the reverse.
  • Activity Focus: Learners look at the image, say the word aloud (e.g., "Mistletoe"), and then identify the initial sound ("m").
With a Function Machine

Learners can follow these steps:

  1. Look at the card (image side up) and say the name of the picture aloud (e.g., "Advent Calendar").
  2. Verbally isolate the initial sound of the word (e.g., "a" for 'Advent').
  3. Post the card into the machine.
  4. When the card exits (grapheme side up), self-check their answer against the written letter (grapheme).

Additionally learners can practise ordering with the cards alphabetically.

Without a Function Machine

These cards could be used by learners to self check - turning over the card to see if they were correct.
